Volkswagen "R" models may come to U.S.

Volkswagen "R" models may come to U.S.

Don’t get too excited by the headline. Volkswagen is developing the Golf R20 with eyes on the U.S. market, but that’s not the R Line that this is about. Instead this has to do with appearance package cars like the Tiguan R Line.

The R Line Tiguan features a sportier design with lowered wheelbase, 18" or 19" wheels, matte chrome highlights, a small spoiler above the rear window. VW of America spokesman Steve Keyes told Inside Lines, "The R Line Tiguan is under consideration but no decision at this time."

If the Tiguan version makes it here, that may also open the door for other R Line cars from VW’s in-house customizers, Volkswagen Individual. While all this may seem promising, the estimated $36K starting price for a U.S. R Line would probably be a little high for a car that is only available with a 200 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder engine.

Volkswagen is preparing for the Essen Motor Show a R-Line version of their smallest SUV - the Tiguan. The new sporty SUV will b unveiled on Friday, so stay tuned for more informations.

The R-Line version of the Tiguan will allow you to offer a sporty look to your SUV, no matter what engine you might have under the hood.

The Tiguan R-Line features a lowered wheelbase, 18" or 19" wheels and also a sporty interior.
